Sidekick Commands are Commands that Tricky learns and uses in Star Fox Adventures. In order to use one, Tricky first has to learn it and only then Fox McCloud can assign him the Commands. It is good to note that Tricky will not take Commands from Fox if he is hungry, i.e. his Tricky Energy meter is empty. Fox will have to feed him Blue GrubTub Fungi before he agrees to cooperate again.

The Five Commands

These Commands can be used to do many different tasks, such as attacking enemies, digging in round dirt patches, and turning on campfires. Tricky will usually tell Fox when to use them by a question mark atop his head. Only Flame and Find commands deplete the Tricky Energy meter. Like most other things in the C-Stick Inventory, all five commands can be assigned to the Y Button. The last command is optional but must be acquired by buying back Tricky's Ball from the ThornTail store. The Play Command will cause Fox to play a game of fetch with Tricky (overtime, this does nothing but change his color scheme).

Find Command		SnowHorn Wastes, after exploring the Hot Spring area and finding patch of dirt.	Used to cracks on grounds or walls to find buried objects or open a tunnel pathway. It is also used to chase after food like GrubTubs and Frost Weeds.
Stay Command		SnowHorn Wastes, after exploring the Hot Spring area and finding the switch.	As suggested, it commands Tricky to stay where he stands. Typically needed for him sit on a switch to open a door and keep open or move an object.
Heel Command		SnowHorn Wastes, after defeating the SharpClaws near the lone SnowHorn, activated by cutscene.	Used to call Tricky, usually to release him from his Stay Command.
Play Command		ThornTail Store, after buying Tricky's Ball back from the ShopKeeper.	The only Command not required to progress in the quest. Play ball with Tricky, it is described as something cool will happen. This will make Tricky change colors
Flame Command		DarkIce Mines, after rescuing the SnowHorn from attacking SharpClaw, activated by cutscene.	Used to melt ice and light a fire where designated. It can also be used combatively as Tricky can attack enemies to aid Fox in battles.

Trivia

• Other characters on Dinosaur Planet seem to know about the usage of Sidekick Commands, for instance, Tricky only learns his Flame Command at the suggestion of the wounded SnowHorn. While Fox will give the same Command to his CloudRunner rescuer at LightFoot Village against his LightFoot attackers.
• Tricky, like other characters in the game, can be assaulted by Fox with his staff and react in pain or complaint. After he learns the Flame Command, he will attack Fox if the player continues to hit him.
• Hilariously, when Tricky is on Stay Command, sometimes he will refuse to comply with Call Command and respond "I'M NOT DOIN' IT!" This happens when the player tries to call him while sitting on a switch that activates an obstacle. He will not move if the player is still occupying the switch-activated space as it would cause the player to get trapped if he moves from it.
• The Play Command is the only command not required to progress in the story.
